Ryecroft Glenton Corporate Finance has advised on a deal that will support the continued growth of long-established Northumberland agricultural merchant, Green Agriculture.
Founded in 1968, the family business is run by Ray Green and his wife Neta, along with their long standing management team and workforce. From its premises in Coopies Lane, the business operates as an independent agricultural wholesaler stocking a wide range of products for the farming community and local retail customers.
The owners engaged Ryecroft Glenton Corporate Finance to identify potential purchasers with complementary operations that would add value and support the future development of the business.
Greens has been acquired by Carrs Billington Agriculture, a national agricultural supplies specialist with more than 30 country stores across England, Scotland and Wales.
Carrs Billington Agriculture, which supplies the farming and rural communities with a comprehensive range of agricultural products and services, will incorporate Green’s into its network, which includes eight country stores in the North East.
By joining Carrs Billington’s nationwide network, the Morpeth-based Green’s, will have access to a broader supply chain with strong wholesale purchasing power, which will allow it to increase its stock range and support a growing customer base.
Ryecroft Glenton Corporate Finance’s Carl Swansbury advised on the transaction, along with Tom Pollard of Wardhadaway.
Carl Swansbury, partner at Ryecroft Glenton Corporate Finance, said: “This acquisition delivers the mutual requirements of both parties by maintaining and growing the agricultural wholesale offering Green’s has delivered to the local farming community for decades.”
Ray Green said: “We are very proud of the position in the local market we have established for the business and the strong and loyal customer base we serve. This partnership will help take our operations on to the next level and help meet our aspirations for growth, which can be realised by being part of an organisation that shares our values and knowledge of the industry, but has a robust national network.”
Rae Tomlinson from Carrs Billington Agriculture said: “Green’s is the perfect fit for Carrs Billington. It has an excellent and long-standing reputation in the area, which we will look to build upon. This acquisition will strengthen our position in Northumberland and enhance the services we offer to the area’s rural communities.”
