J&B Recycling has transformed one of the largest wine bottlers in the UK’s recycling provision, helping to identify effective cost-generating recycling programmes and significantly improving its carbon footprint.
Greencroft Bottling in Stanley, County Durham, partnered with J&B Recycling in 2014. “Through our work with J&B Recycling and second recycling partner, our business has generated an additional income of over £33,000 from recyclables this year alone,” said Gemma Green, HR administrator at Greencroft Bottling.
“Due to the nature of our business, we have a need for an array of recycling services including glass, paper, cardboard, plastic, wood, etc, and our needs vary from shift to shift. If any of our recycling skips get full during production, it could directly impact our business.
“Before working with J&B Recycling, we were investing a lot of time and effort into the disposing of waste, at a considerable cost. J&B created a package whereby we’ve turned a charge-heavy element of our business into an additional revenue stream. J&B was proactive in coming to us with solutions and it was clear the team wanted to see us succeed.
“Waste removal previously cost our business over £28,000 a year; we are now making that back plus more. This has requiredno extra effort on our behalf and we receive a higher level of service from J&B Recycling than our previous supplier.”
As the North East’s largest independent recycling company, J&B Recycling works specifically with commercial businesses, ensuring minimum waste to landfill and efficient collections. The company most recently celebrated its efficiency figures, recording an average of 98.19% of on-time services over the last six months.
Mark Penny, Commercial Manager at J&B Recycling said: “We’re really proud of the relationship we have built with Greencroft Bottling and look forward to continuing to work together to generate extra income for the company wherever possible.
“Providing an efficient service for all of our customer’s is a top priority, and it’s brilliant to see company’s like Greencroft Bottling benefitting so greatly from the service that we provide.
“Recycling is commonly considered a drain on a business’s time and something that companies often ignore. Using Greencroft Bottling as an example proves that having a strong recycling partnership is the complete opposite and in reality is a business necessity.”
Rob Mitchel, operations manager at Greencroft Bottling, said: “Environmental sustainability is very important to our business; our County Durham site is predominately powered by on-site wind turbines and solar panels. Recycling has always been a core element of our sustainability target and now we’ve dramatically reduced the amount of waste we send to landfill and we’re financially benefitting from it too.
“Working with J&B Recycling has certainly made our recycling process a lot easier to manage and has helped us become a greener company. We can send the most obscure item and J&B Recycling will go out of its way to help. No request is too difficult and the customer service is fantastic.”
Gemma added: “We find working with J&B easy, which is exactly what we need. From the proposal stage, the team have been enthusiastic, knowledgeable and efficient. We’re in touch with J&B daily and the team are always happy to help. The drivers are skilled and friendly, and the office extremely helpful; no request is too difficult.”
