Lockdown Entertainment Ideas

Back in 2020 when the first lockdowns happened, we all had to learn how to entertain ourselves without going out and meeting others physically. It changed up how we thought of our free time, with so many events cancelled. As such, many people found lots of different and unique ways to entertain themselves. What kind of lockdown entertainment became popular?

Cooking And Baking

While you couldn’t hit the shops for some retail therapy, you could still go to the supermarket and pick up the essentials. As such, you could go and get all the basics to create your very own baked delights.

There really was a boom in baking during lockdowns. At first it was banana bread, a delicious treat that you can bake to use up bananas that are about to go off. Then, many started trying their very own sourdough starters. As for drinks, whipped coffee became a trend when it blew up on Tik Tok.

As such, with extra time people started going back into their kitchens and creating their very own concoctions. It’s encouraged more people to get into cooking, and be more adventurous.

Online Bingo

Who had ‘a huge resurgence in online bingo’ on the 2020 bingo card? Yes, in 2020 – 2021, there was a massive explosion of online bingo sites like these, ready to offer you games around the clock.

Bingo as a game is one of the oldest current pastimes in the UK. While the brick and mortar locations have been shutting down over time, the online sites have been offering all the fun of the bingo hall for years now. As such, it’s not actually that surprising that they saw a resurgence during lockdown.

Online bingo allows you to meet up with other likeminded people in chat rooms, so you can chat between rounds of bingo. As such, people flocked to these sites during lockdown. Who didn’t want to get the chance to talk to others when they weren’t able to go out?

Social Zoom Calls

Thanks to the wonders of technology, while we couldn’t go out and see our friends physically, we could see them through online video calls. Online calling platform Zoom became the go to way to see your friends, and chat with them about whatever you felt like.

Some people liked to take it one step further. Zoom pub quizzes became a popular way to spend time, as you could enter competitions and win real prizes, with the benefit of much cheaper drinks from your own kitchen. We also saw virtual escape rooms and other activities through Zoom, looking to bring these entertaining experiences to you through your computer screen.

Learn A New Craft

Since we suddenly had a lot more free time on our hands, we were able to finally try the crafts we’d always wanted to. For example, some people started trying bullet journalling for the first time, as a way to stay both creative and organised. Others tried their hand at knitting or crochet, in order to make themselves new items like cardigans and jumpers.

With that time, many people found a new love for a craft that they’d never tried before. It was something to break up the monotony, and get away from computer screens for a while. Even now we’re out of lockdown, this is something that a lot of people are carrying on with. After all, getting into a craft can help relieve stress.

There were so many ways we entertained ourselves during lockdown. Did you try any of these activities? Did you carry any of them on after lockdown was lifted? Many have found that these activities and habits they picked up were beneficial in the long run.
