ANYONE looking to test their running skills have a few days left to submit their entry to join more than 1000 others at the Redcar Half Marathon, with an events village set to provide a host of fun events for spectators.
Taking place on Sunday 1 October, there isn’t long left to sign up for entries with a final closing date on 12pm on Thursday 28 September for any runners wanting to tackle Redcar’s route.
Starting at Tuned In! and going along the seafront towards Marske and coming with a small section on the Trunk Road, the flat route should see runners setting personal bests on the 13 mile course.
In addition to the Half Marathon, there is also an events village based at Tuned In! with a range of musicians, demonstrations, competitions and performances on the main stage promising something for all the family.
There will also be circus skills displays, face painting, balloon modelling and henna art. If anyone fancies putting their crafty abilities to good use, there will also be a range of craft workshops where you can make your own medals.
There are just over 200 places remaining for the half marathon, so runners need to be quick to book their places. It costs £30 to enter, with an extra £3 charge for runners not part of a UK Athletics affiliated club, and it can be done online at www.nmhraces.net.
For those who don’t fancy a half marathon there is also the Beacon 5K race, which costs £12.50 to enter with the same £3 affiliation charge, or the Everyone Active 2K Fun Run for younger runners who want to try a shorter distance. The entry cost for the Fun Run is £3.
For wheelchair athletes looking to take on the Redcar Half Marathon, there are still a handful of places left in that event with an entry fee of £30.
Cllr Carl Quartermain, Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism & Communications, said: “The Redcar Half Marathon should be another great event, and I would encourage any runners debating about signing up to put their name down and take part. The course is a favourite with runners of all abilities and it is a good one for athletes looking to set personal bests.
“The Beacon 5K and the 2K Fun Run are also a great pair of support races and are fun for all the family to take part in, as well as providing excitement for the spectators who come out and cheer on their friends and family.”
Peter Smith, contract manager for Everyone Active, said: “We are passionate about encouraging the local community to lead healthier, more active lifestyles and we are delighted to be working with the Council to deliver this year’s half marathon.
“We would encourage anyone who is looking to take on a challenge this autumn to sign up for the run. The event is set to be a lot of fun, and is not to be missed.”
Redcar’s Drive Vauxhall will continue their sponsorship of the half marathon – alongside Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, Everyone Active and the New Marske Harriers – with new mile markers featuring the Drive Vauxhall logo.
