Jarrow-based UTS Engineering has further demonstrated its community credentials by sponsoring one of the UK’s leading triathlons.
The fourth and final British Triathlon Age-Group Championship event of the 2018 season took place in Ashington at the Woodhorn Museum Triathlon, organised by V02 Max Racing Events.
The Country Park, with a 16-hectare lake and surrounding woodland and grasslands, attracted more than 250 starters to compete for British Triathlon championship medals.
UTS Engineering is the leading supplier of pipework to the UK utilities sector and Its products and services are predominantly called upon when its customers are maintaining or carrying out emergency work to their pipe infrastructure.
Shaun Sadler, managing director of UTS Engineering, said: “As a business we regularly work in very demanding and challenging environments. This includes being called out to provide solutions with time always working against us. To do that we need to employ a special breed of people, those who are resilient, show individual leadership and never give up. That is what attracted us to sponsorship of this event. We see strong parallels between our own staff and company culture and these elite sportspeople and their positive, goal-orientated approach to the challenge ahead of them. There is so much to admire in the focus, dedication and can-do attitude of triathletes.”
Amongst a number of individual success stories at the event, the fastest athlete of the day was Jane Hodgson (Morpeth Harriers & AC) who was almost three minutes quicker than anyone else around the footpaths of the QE2 Country Park.
Neil Jefferson of VO2Max Racing Events Ltd, said: “At one time triathlons were considered as events for a very niche number of sports people. In recent years that has all changed and triathlons have, as it were, moved into the mainstream with huge numbers of people now taking part. The British Triathlon Age-Group Championship is a very important event in the calendar and V02 Max Racing Events is delighted to have coordinated it to offer local companies an opportunity for sponsorship. UTS Engineering has taken sponsorship previously and we are very pleased that it came on board this year.”
The last 12 months has been a period of significant growth for UTS, which provides specialist pipeline manufacturing and services. This included the opening of a 50,000 sq ft facility in Newport, Wales, to meet increasing demand from its clients in the utility, industrial and commercial markets.
The company, which was established in 2001 by managing director, Shaun Sadler, invested £750,000 in the plant, which offers manufacturing, stock warehousing and service capability.
UTS produces a vast range of couplings, flange adapters and repair clamps for customers in the UK and export markets. Indeed, its unique selling point is having the capability to provide almost any product for the piping industry, to incorporate tailor-made solutions and to fabricate its products to suit any size of diameter and oval pipes, if required.
