Road resurfacing work is to be carried out across County Durham in the coming weeks.

Durham County Council is to carry out work at Crook, Spennymoor and Dipton, with all schemes requiring short-term road closures.

The resurfacing in Crook takes place over the next two weekends: Saturday 3 and Sunday 4, and Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June.

It will require staggered closures of the A690/Job’s Hill Bank junction each day.

Diversion routes will be in place with signs to inform drivers.

Closures and working hours will be from 7am to 7pm each day.

Access to properties and businesses will be restricted at certain times, and parking away from the works area is advised.

The work at Spennymoor will take place from 7am on Monday 5 June, until Friday 9 June.

It will require the road between the A688 and the Vyners Close/Merrington Road roundabout to be closed in all directions.

Diversion routes will be in place using the A688 and the B6288 through Merrington Lane Industrial Estate and vice versa.

In Dipton the work will take place overnight, from Monday 5 June until Friday 9 June, from 7pm to 7am each day.

The A692 Front Street will be closed between its junctions with the B6311 Flint Hill Bank and Derwent View Terrace.

Diversion routes will be in place through Catchgate and Annfield Plain.

Brian Buckley, the council’s strategic highways manager, said: “These schemes are part of our ongoing programme to maintain the road network across the county.

“We appreciate there will be some disruption to motorists but we have planned the projects to ensure this is kept to a minimum, including working overnight at Dipton. I’d like to thank motorists in advance for their patience and understanding while these works are carried out.”
