Another new senior developer has joined the ranks of bespoke software development consultancy Scott Logic.
Darren Smith, 31, has joined the firm, which specialises in solutions for the financial sector, after nearly six years working in web development for digital agencies in the North East region.
Darren, from Bedlington, Northumberland, will be based at Scott Logic’s Newcastle office at St James’ Gate, and was introduced to the company by a former colleague who joined Scott Logic last year.
“I kept hearing good things about Scott Logic, so when I started to look for a change I did some research and found the company was hiring”, Darren said.
“I felt the firm had a strong focus on developing staff and delivering great solutions with exciting technologies, and that attracted me. It’s great to see the digital sector flourishing in the North East, and companies like Scott Logic doing so well.”
Darren studied Computing Science as part of his MSc in Natural Sciences, which he gained from the University of Durham in 2006. In his career so far he has worked with a range of technologies, including JavaScript, Java, Scala and others, across a range of sectors from government to e-commerce. He hopes to develop his skills in modern JavaScript technologies, as well as functional programming.
Newcastle’s Head of Development Rob Newsome added: “Darren is a fantastic addition to our team, and I am particularly pleased to hear that our existing colleagues are helping us recruit people of his calibre to complement and build upon the skillset we have in house.”
Scott Logic is continuing to grow steadily and intends to take on more experienced software engineers across all four of its offices in the coming months, as well as testers and user experience (UX) designers.
