MIDDLESBROUGH Council is updating its Register of Electors – and voters are urged to make sure they’re on the list.
The Electoral Registration Officer is legally required to undertake a canvass of all households in the borough and produce a revised Register of Electors by December 1.
The aim is to gather up-to- date information on who lives in every property, and households are required by law to provide the information.
A Household Enquiry Form (HEF) will be delivered to every residential property in Middlesbrough at the beginning of August.
Households must respond to the HEF, even if the residents living there are already registered to vote.
Any residents at the address who are identified on the HEF but are not currently on the Council’s register and eligible to vote must have their names added to the HEF. They will then be sent an invitation to register, and can do this online.
At the beginning of September, a reminder HEF will be delivered to those properties which have not responded.
Finally over a two-week period in early October, any properties which have still not responded will be visited and the householder encouraged to complete the form at the door.
