AROUND THE WORLD IN EIGHT BEERS …

A RYTON pub is giving drinkers the chance to travel the world from the comfort of a barstool – with a passport to pints.

In a nod to Phineas Fogg’s epic 80-day adventure, The Runhead – owned by Newcastle operator Malhotra Group plc – has sourced beers from eight different countries across the globe

And those whose special Passport to Pints is stamped to show they’ve tried every single one, will not only get a free pint of beer but could win tickets to a Brewdog Beer School beer tasting event.

Beers in the challenge include Asahi – described as dry and crisp with a refreshing finish – from Japan, along with Cobra, from India and Jamaican Red Stripe which has a taste of citrus.

Tyskie, made in Poland, is smooth and balanced with hints of caramel and light fruit, while Mahou, from Spain is made with premium hops and yeast.

Others include Chang, from Thailand, Pravha, from the Czech Republic, which is described as crisp and light with soft malt sweetness and a touch of spice and Blue Moon, from the USA, which is citrusy and smooth with a tangy finish and notes of orange and coriander.

And everyone who completes the challenge – and ends up with a fully stamped passport to pints – will find a free pint from the Around The World selection added to their Maloyalty card.

Those who are not already members of the Maloyalty card scheme – which runs across all Malhotra Group venues – can sign up for a card on the spot and claim their pint.

The Runhead has a firm following among beer drinkers thanks to its commitment to showcasing locally brewed and produced ales and Brewdog Beer Schools operate at venues across the UK.

Tickets – which normally cost £25 – include five third pints paired with a selection of cheeses and a 90-minuute guide through the history of beer, how they are brewed and which food to pair them with.

And the challenge – which runs from the start of June until the end of August is the brainchild of business manager Mark Johnson.

He said: “Very often, drinkers find a pint they like and stick with it and although this challenge is a bit of fun, we wanted to introduce our customers to drinks they wouldn’t normally come across unless they travelled outside the UK.

“Now they can enjoy them here in Ryton all summer long without leaving the pub.”
