A leading North East care home is opening its doors to shoppers this weekend with a special festive event.

On Friday 5 December, Heatherfield, at Annitsford, Cramlington is holding a Christmas Market.

And not only is everyone invited, but guests can also bring along a bauble to help decorate their tree.

The event will take place from 10am to 4pm and there will be stalls selling a wide variety of crafts made by the residents, such as candles and cakes, along with a tombola stall.

There will be Christmas decorations to buy, along with scented candles and burners, wreaths for doors, Christmas-themed packs of sweets and hot chocolate packs.

Staff will also be serving hot chocolate and mulled wine with minced pies and Christmas cake.

And live music will be provided by The Music Memory Band, which specialises in classic tunes from years gone by.

The 74-bed home – owned by Prestwick Care – provides general nursing and residential care, with a special unit for young, physically disabled people.

And manager Fiona Payne said the residents “have worked very hard to create a lovely selection of gifts for friends, gamily and members of the local community to buy.

“After all,” she said, “Christmas is about thought and care and spending time with people, really, so that’s what we are celebrating.

“And we hope lots of people will come along and join us.”

The party runs from 1am to 4pm and more information is available at https://www.prestwickcare.co.uk/our-homes/heatherfield-annitsford/
