Winners have now been announced for the North East Charity Awards 2016 which recognise the great work done by charities and their supporters in the North East. The top prize for charity of the year went to Children North East, with the popular organisation winning the final award of the night in its 125th year.

Children North East is an independent charity serving the north east of England. Each year they directly support the mental health and emotional well-being of 4,000 children and young people. The charity’s mission is for every north east child to grow up happy and healthy and they do this by providing services direct to children and young people in their families, schools and communities and by influencing other organisations.

Jeremy Cripps, Chief Executive of Children North East, said: “We are all so very proud to be the winners of the North East Charity of the Year 2016. To be recognised in this way, in the humbling company of some amazing people and charities is such a fitting tribute to everyone past and present who has been involved, supported and worked tirelessly for the good of Children North East. We also have to thank some of our key funders who make it possible for us to help so many in the north east such as support received from players of People’s Postcode Lottery and Commissioners such as Newcastle City Council and Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group.

Thanks also to the Award sponsors Brewin Dolphin and support sponsors Leathers LLP who made the event such a fantastic night for everyone.’’
