Joe Wrangham is following in his family’s footsteps with his role as commercial manager at Northumberland-based luxury homebuilder Ida Homes.
Joe, 32, joined the company last year, and has enjoyed getting down to work on progressing its residential developments in Morpeth and Belford.
The role involves the cost management of new and existing developments, producing budgets and valuations, and liaising with contractors and suppliers, tendering the works, setting prices and reporting on all the commercial aspects of the build.
Joe, who grew up in and still lives in Gateshead, started his career in the construction industry in 2010, gaining an HNC in construction while working for Profix. Joining the industry continued a family tradition, as his father was a quantity surveyor and commercial director at Gateshead Council before he retired.
“It’s kind of in the family,” said Joe.
With more than a decade of experience in the industry and having worked his way up to be a senior quantity surveyor for a national housebuilder in the North East, Joe was approached about joining Ida Homes as its commercial manager.
He realised he was interested in working for a different kind of homebuilder which works on a smaller scale, at the luxury end of the market.
Joe said: “The properties that we are building here are different. These are luxury homes. You can see that in the design, the finishing spec, and the distinctive architecture of what we have to offer. It’s very high end.”
Ida Homes was formally launched last year by a team with a track record of building high-quality homes at bespoke developments across Northumberland. Working with Ida Homes is allowing Joe to develop a broader experience by getting involved with all departments as the company grows.
He said: “The company has got a great family feel to it. It’s close-knit and everyone is lovely and approachable. And it’s great to get involved in the kind of developments I hadn’t worked on before.”
Joe loves the Northumberland area that Ida Homes works in and is a regular visitor to Bamburgh Beach with his cocker spaniel Olive.
He said: “I love the heritage of Northumberland and I visit the area when I’m not at work. It’s beautiful, it’s breath-taking and you can understand why people move up here from down south.”
Ida Homes is currently building 18 luxury apartments at King Edward’s Place in Morpeth. A planning application for 37 homes at South Meadows in Belford is awaiting consent. The first homes are due to be released for sale in Morpeth in the coming months.
