WITH school holidays boredom creeping in a construction firm has asked parents to make sure their children stay away from building sites.
Partner Construction already runs site safety talks throughout the year using its fun mascots Ivor and Honor Goodsite. Now they are reminding people to be aware of the potential hazards.
Ivor and Honor attend school assemblies across the UK to talk to children about building site safety – and to show them about what it’s like to work in the construction industry.
Partner Construction is building The Acorns, a 70-home development situated close to the company’s Spennymoor headquarters, on behalf of Maple Oak Homes.
Leigh Cresswell, managing director of Partner Construction, said: “The school holidays are well under way and a building site can look like a tempting place for children to play.
“The reality is that there are a whole host of potential dangers – including machinery, loose materials and trucks.
“We’re asking that parents make their children aware of the dangers – and ensure they know where they’re playing.”
Leigh continued: “As a housebuilder we have a responsibility to keep the communities we work in safe – and that includes educating children about the risks.
“Thanks to Ivor and Honor we’re able to do this in a fun way that keeps children engaged – and more importantly ensures they understand.
“The key message to children is that they should never enter a building site without a responsible adult and the correct protective clothing.
“We’re also reminding parents and children to always read and follow safety signs around sites – they are there to keep everyone safe.”
With the Government aiming to see 300,000 new homes built per year by 2020, construction sites are becoming more commonplace in residential areas and Partner hopes it can help to prevent any tragedies by speaking out.
