Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Daisy Chain leads the way in autism training

Autism Charity Daisy Chain is delighted to announce the organisation has been awarded the training licence for the School Years programme by the Autism Education Trust, following the successful delivery of the Early Years programme in the North East.

The programme is supported by the Department for Education and follows the National Curriculum. The knowledge and understanding gained from the training is held in high regard by OFSTED.

Training is for professionals working across all education settings for school-aged children aged five to 16. Daisy Chain is the specialist hub for Stockton-on-Tees.

There are four levels of training starting with Making Sense of Autism which raises awareness for staff including teachers, administrators, lunch and transport staff. It gives an overview of autism and the way it affects pupils throughout the school day.

Good Autism Practice offers the opportunity to discover hands-on tools and techniques to support pupils with an autism spectrum disorder and is suitable for those working one-to-one in both mainstream and specialist settings. It can be followed by Extending and Enhancing Good Autism Practice which deepens understanding of the disorder and offers practical strategies to support the development of effective autism practice.

Leading Good Autism Practice is aimed at staff who may train and lead other staff within their educational setting and develop provision for children affected by autism.

Jennifer Hewitt, Head of Services and Learning, said, ‘It’s a welcome professional endorsement to be appointed as the Schools Hub for Stockton by the Autism Education Trust. We are a trusted local provider of autism services and it means local schools can come to us and get the support and help they need to work with children with autism in their educational setting.

‘We are looking forward to working with many more schools over the coming months.’
