Three gymnasts from Deerness Gymnastics Academy have returned from the Acrobatic European Championships in Poland with a bronze medal for Great Britain.
The trio, Caitlin Owston (19), Amelia Pamler (18) and Bethany MacDougall (14) all from County Durham, took the bronze in the women’s group dynamic final and finished 6th in the overall competition. Helping Great Britain to win a haul of medals including 1 gold, 6 silver and the girls’ bronze.
They were competing for Great Britain in one of the most jaw-dropping disciplines in gymnastics, against 11 other nations in the European Championships being held in Rzeszow in Poland.
“I am so pleased for our gymnasts on their bronze medal. This was a very competitive championship and this trio of gymnasts have worked really hard over the past few year, continually improving through their hard work and commitment to the sport. They thoroughly deserved their success at the European Championships,” said Stuart Thompson, head of acrobatics, Deerness Gymnastics Academy and GB coach.
“It’s an honour to represent your country at any sport, and to win a medal whilst doing so is a very special moment. This was their first call-up to represent their country and the whole club is very proud of their success in the European Championships. Their achievements will hopefully inspire and encourage more people to get involved with gymnastics and the club.”
The trio also recently won the National Championships and currently hold the title of British Championships after their gold medal-winning performance this summer.
