Staff at EDF Energy, based at Doxford International Business Park, Sunderland, has raised vital funds for local domestic abuse charity Wearside Women in Need.
The charity offers a range of support services for women and children who are victims of domestic abuse, providing safe temporary accommodation through refuges and other means of support through its close links to community groups and agencies.
Organised by EDF Energy team manager Nicola Robinson, £200 was raised from a bake sale and Nicola was also able to donate six hampers made up of over 50 Easter eggs and essential toiletries and personal care items.
Nicola, who has organised several initiatives over the years to raise awareness and money for Wearside Women In Need, said: “I decided to organise a bake sale as I thought this was a great way to raise much needed cash for the charity, which helps so many local families move on from dangerous and complex domestic abuse situations.
“It was a great event and we sold 400 baked treats including everything from cakes and brownies to quiches, pies and sausage rolls. Each item was sold for 50p each and I was really pleased to raise £200 in total.”
The EDF Energy customer services team takes part in numerous fundraisers throughout the year, with a focus on championing local charities who provide critical support and provision to the most vulnerable members of the local community.
Nicola added: “Thanks to everyone who got involved. I have to say the best entry to the bake sale had to be the homemade Nutella cheesecake, made by customer service advisor Rose Ord, which sold out within five minutes of the sale opening! It weighed a ton and tasted absolutely amazing, so we were not surprised that it flew off the stand.”
