Jill Cochrane, an award-winning television interviewer and world renowned authority in communication skills, will be giving a public talk at Grey College, Durham, this month.

“Cutting the Mustard” will be presented on Sunday, April 26, at the college in South Road, and everyone is invited to attend.

In Ms Cochrane’s 50 half-hour interviews on Channel 4, her interviewees included Lord Carrington, Denis Healey, Robert Maxwell, Jonathan Miller, Sir Peter Hall, Bishop Trevor Huddleston and Indira Gandhi.

Now, as managing director of the London-based Vertex Group, Ms Cochrane employs a network of communications trainers worldwide working with thousands of people in the professions, including CEOs of International companies and key players in Interpol and the security services.

She explained: “Throughout life, the tool you carry with you every day is you, your voice,  face, demeanor and experience, unique to you, but what is it that makes you special?”

She added: “The art of good communication is a skill that can be taught: from applying for a new job or a loan from the bank to meeting your partner’s parents for the first time, or seeking promotion; how do you prepare?

“The talk will apply to all ages and stages.”

Alan Martin, President of Grey College Senior Common Room, said: “This is a huge coup for Grey College. Jill is much sought-after and her talk is not to be missed.”

“Cutting the Mustard” will be held in Holgate House, Grey College, South Road, on Sunday, April 26, starting at2.15pm.
