SIZZLING street-food traders, artisan bakers and craft brewers are just some of the stalls taking over a Middlesbrough park for a Bank Holiday food bonanza.
The Northern Dales Farmers’ Market – recently named one of the top 20 in the UK – is holding its annual food festival at Stewart Park onSunday, May 28, and it’s set to be the biggest one yet.
Thousands of food-lovers flocked to the event last year and with similar numbers expected this year organisers have increased the number of stalls to more than 50.
Market manager Nigel Davison said: “We’ve hand-picked a wide range of quality local food producers so there’s something to suit everyone.
“In the mix this time around are some superb street-food traders including a newcomer to the local food scene who serves up the most incredible Korean dumplings.
“All of our traders produce what’s on their stalls and we encourage people to talk to them about what they make, where the ingredients come from and about how they got involved in the food industry.
“For instance we’ve a probation officer who makes sensational sour dough bread, a lawyer who trained in The States who’s now producing Italian patisserie and a retired policeman who’s just returned from a trip to St James’ Palace with his gourmet scotch eggs.”
The event – which also features live music, craft stalls and children’s entertainment – is being sponsored by Growing Middlesbrough Local Food Network and has been organised in partnership with Askham Bryan College.

“During a recent survey of residents four out of every five people said it was important that the food they bought was produced locally.
“The food festival at Stewart Park provides people with the opportunity to buy from local independent producers and to find out more about the thriving food industry that exists in our area, all the while keeping more money circulating in our local economy.”
