Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

FRANKIE SAYS – GET READY TO SKATE…

ONE of the North East’s most loved club nights will return next week – with added wheel appeal.

Cool for Cats was a favourite Sunderland weekly DJ night, headed up by Frankie and the Heartstrings’ Frankie Francis with members of Field Music, This Ain’t Vegas and other local musicians.

And now – for one night only – it’s getting ready to roll again – literally.

On Saturday 30 July Cool for Cats v Deja Brew will take place at the recently opened roller skating rink at the city’s Keel Square, with a chance to enjoy all of the hits  played by top DJs while also getting the opportunity to skate.

The event starts at 5pm and runs until 8pm and is part of a wide programme of special events that are taking place at the rink right up until it closes on 4 September.

The roller rink is part of a full programme of summer events organised by Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council, began last week (22 July).

Sharon Appleby, Chief Executive of Sunderland BID believes the Cool For Cats event will attract lots of fans.

“We know how popular this club night was in the past so we’re delighted that Frankie has agreed to revive it, with a real twist,” she said.

“It’s a great addition to our programme of DJs who will be providing music for everyone to skate along to every Saturday night.”

Other themed sessions are being held on Friday 29 July, Saturday 5 August and Friday 12 August where there will skating to the sounds of the 70s, 80s and 90s on each respective evening.

Other events include skating with kids characters including a number of superheroes, dancing with Disney icons and quiet hours for anyone with special educational and sensory needs.

Other highlights include a silent disco on 19 August and DJ Jamal taking to the decks on both 20 and 27 August.

The roller rink runs from 11am to 8pm and tickets cost £10 for adults, £8 for five to 17-year-olds, £4 for those aged four and under and £28 for a family ticket and

prices include the hire of roller boots, kneepads and helmets. No advance booking is necessary.

There are also a number of options available for anyone interested in a private party at the rink.
