Go North East bus drivers set to wear red, white and blue to commemorate VE Day

This bank holiday weekend, Go North East is doing things a little differently in an effort to bring a bit of cheer and smiles to people’s faces, and make the whole weekend stand out compared to any other during lockdown.

Bus drivers and other colleagues at the company have been encouraged to wear red, white and blue clothing over the weekend, instead of their usual uniform, to commemorate VE Day.

So, if you are making an essential journey this bank holiday weekend, do not be surprised if you are greeted by a friendly driver dressed from head to toe in red, white and blue, be it their casual clothes or even fancy dress.

Go North East buses will continue to run to emergency timetables, catering for key worker journeys and essential travel only.

Martijn Gilbert, managing director at Go North East, said: “We know things can seem a little repetitive under lockdown so, like we did at Easter, we’re hoping to add a little colour and cheer to the bank holiday weekend.

“It’s also a time of reflection and gives our workforce the opportunity to commemorate VE Day.”
