North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

North East students have celebrated their achievements in preparing for the world of work at a special graduation event.

Young people from St Mary’s Catholic School, Newcastle, Northumberland Church of England Academy, Ashington and Hartlepool Sixth Form College took part in a career programme organised by the charity Career Ready to increase their employability potential.

Career Ready is a UK-wide charity that runs structured, employer-led careers programmes for students between the ages of 16 and 19 years. The aim is to increase the employability of students through a series of engagements with businesses and industry professionals.

Over the last four terms, the students have been on internships and work experience placements, visited workplaces in the North East and London and attended regular mentoring sessions and masterclasses.

Their hard work was recognised at a graduation ceremony hosted by Gradvert in Newcastle on Jan 31.

The event was attended by mentors keen to celebrate the students’ achievements and included an interactive workshop focused on the next steps into the world of work or higher education, followed by a tour of Hoults Yard.

Gradvert, who simplify graduate recruitment, deliver tailored leadership and management training and enable businesses to build life-long learning capability so they succeed, hosted a Career Ready intern as part of its commitment to supporting the programme.

Its Managing Director Michaela Reaney presented the students with a certificate recognising the skills and knowledge they gained during the programme.

Michaela said: “At Gradvert, we understand the importance of properly preparing young people for the world of work.  By supporting the Career Ready programme, businesses can make a huge difference to the lives of young people.

“We were delighted to welcome the students to Gradvert to present them with their awards. They should all be very proud of how much they’ve achieved.

“Career Ready is a fantastic experience and we are pleased to have helped the young people on the first steps towards reaching their goals.”

Eloise Pearson, a student at St Mary’s Newcastle, said: “Through Career Ready I have learned to be organised to maximise my opportunities and experienced new things I wouldn’t have.”
