- Fully customisable safari-spec Grenadier is confirmed for production in 2026
- Bespoke conversions will be undertaken by INEOS Kavango in Botswana
- Available with up to nine passenger seats across long- and extra-long wheelbase variants
LONDON, 8 December 2025 – Production of the Grenadier Game Viewer by INEOS Kavango, a bespoke in-house conversion of the Grenadier 4X4, will start in early 2026. Unveiled as a prototype concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Travel Indaba and We Are Africa through 2024, the Grenadier Game Viewer generated enormous interest from game reserves and luxury safari lodges across Sub-Sahara Africa and from ranches and estates in the US, Middle East and South East Asia.
Long- and extra-long wheelbase Grenadiers will be supplied by INEOS’s Hambach assembly plant to INEOS Kavango in Botswana in a partial-build state – with no paint, tailgates, seats (except the front), side glazing, roof skin, trims or unnecessary electrical features – ready for conversion. Available with between four and nine rear passenger seats, depending on the wheelbase. The Grenadier Game Viewer requires no chassis alterations, ensuring the vehicle’s original ladder-frame retains its full strength and durability.
Buyers will be able to extensively customise the Grenadier Game Viewer to their individual needs, including seating, storage layout and roof design. In an industry first, the vehicle is supported under a manufacturer warranty, subject to terms and conditions, giving operators the freedom to work with the INEOS Kavango team to design a vehicle that works for them, with total peace of mind that comes with full factory-backed aftersales support. Component traceability guarantees every part meets the brand’s quality standards and ongoing servicing, maintenance and repair will be provided by INEOS Kavango.
Operators can opt to maintain the Grenadier Game Viewer themselves without voiding the warranty, providing approved procedures and genuine parts are used. INEOS Kavango in collaboration with customers’ closest Grenadier workshops will offer training, spares, tooling, and preferential parts pricing and service plans.
Lynn Calder, CEO of INEOS Automotive, said: “This is the Grenadier coming full circle. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s original inspiration for a modern, robust 4X4 came while on safari in Botswana almost ten years ago. This deep connection with Africa was borne out in the Goodwood concept and in the final production design. The teams at Hambach and INEOS Kavango have been working together for the last 18 months to bring the Grenadier Game Viewer to life as a full production model, and we can’t wait to see it in service.”
Born in Botswana
In 2022, Kavango Engineering, one of southern Africa’s most respected and established vehicle conversion specialists, created a safari-ready vehicle from a donor production prototype Grenadier. Modifications were minimal, centring on a slightly raised ride height and relocating the Station Wagon’s roof-mounted switchgear to the centre console. The original roof was replaced by a lightweight roll-back canvas top with a foldable windscreen and the usual tiered seating was added to optimise passengers’ views. Following a robust business case analysis, INEOS Automotive acquired the business in August 2023, renaming it INEOS Kavango.
Located in Maun, northern Botswana, at the gateway to the Okavango Delta, INEOS Kavango’s 5,000m2 premises includes extensive fabrication and assembly facilities and its highly skilled 70-strong workforce currently completes around 200 ground-up conversions a year. It provides ongoing maintenance for a wide range of use cases including safari, anti-poaching, veterinary, primary healthcare and film production. INEOS Kavango has worked closely with the government of Botswana to ensure strong foundations to grow the business over the coming years.
Proof-of-concept customer
Four Grenadier-based vehicles converted to serve as Game Viewers will enter service next month. Hiddn Lodge, a new ultra-luxury retreat near Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa, commissioned INEOS Kavango to convert full production Grenadiers to game viewer vehicles. Though officially predating the start of series Grenadier Game Viewer production, Hiddn’s vehicles were converted as fully-serviceable bespoke proof-of-concept conversions. The undertaking served as a test bed for INEOS Kavango as it finalised its operational processes for the early 2026 start of production of the full series Grenadier Game Viewer line.
