The only difference is, that no-one will say anything directly to you, but you can be judged, dependent on the industry and job role.

With this in mind, it’s important to pay attention to what you choose to wear to work every day. Some of the outfits that could leave a negative impact in the minds of employers include jeans, fishnet tights, trainers, and sweatpants. Dressing well doesn’t necessarily mean having to wear a business suit; often, smart-casual wear is enough for most workplaces, providing it’s in neutral tones such as black, grey, and navy.

Although in everyday life we are convinced to dress to our own sense of style, it’s often forbidden in some workplaces. If there are strict rules in place, it would be much more sensible to dress to the standards set out for you, so you don’t come across as difficult or unable to follow the rules. Opposing from the dress code standards is often not the best decision to make, but if you choose to pair smart-casual clothes with a formal coat such as a peacoat from for example, it will give off a sense of confidence as well as the capability to do your job, according to studies.

What you choose to wear not only has an impact on how other people view you, but it can also affect how you feel and view yourself. Choose your style of clothing wisely, dependent on the dress codes your workplace has set out. For example, casual clothing can make you feel more relaxed and comfortable. However, it has been argued to hinder workplace performance which is why many workplaces don’t allow it. Smart clothes, on the other hand, can make individuals feel much more productive and powerful in their job role.

Even if you have followed the dress code down to the very last detail, there may be occasions when you can’t be bothered to put in the effort and often, this can show. Make sure your clothes are well fitted to your body shape you get up that little bit earlier to carry out your grooming routine. These small tips can make a real difference in how you’re perceived in the workplace.
