Cleveland Bridge UK Ltd is to join a celebration of everything that is ingenious about Darlington, exhibiting at the Festival of Ingenuity on 8 and 9 July.
Cleveland Bridge UK Ltd was established in 1877 and has been involved in the production of some of the world’s most iconic bridges, from Tyne Bridge and the Transporter locally, to Sydney Harbour Bridge. Some of the company’s most famous contributions to bridge infrastructure across the world will be showcased at the Darlington Festival of Ingenuity.
Today, Cleveland Bridge UK operates on a 22-acre site in Darlington, employing almost 300 people. It continues to work on some of the most significant bridging challenges around the globe, including the Forth Replacement Crossing it is currently working on in Scotland.
The Festival of Ingenuity will include a two-day ‘ingenious business’ exhibition in the Market Square along with an ‘Ingenious Engineering’ event for schools, taking place at the Dolphin Centre. The festival will demonstrate the innovation and ingenuity, past and present, of organisations from in and around Darlington.
Along with Cleveland Bridge UK Ltd., other exhibitors include Mech-Tool Engineering; Nifco; Arriva; Sherwoods; Darlington College; Teesside University and Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue.
Chris Droogan, Managing Director of Cleveland Bridge UK Ltd, said: “We are proud of our heritage and the contribution Cleveland Bridge has made to engineering infrastructure around the world.
“Innovators in Darlington have played an extraordinary role in industry for centuries. It’s fantastic to have an opportunity to celebrate the past, but also the current contribution local businesses make to the world economy.”
