TIME IS running out to enter a unique gaming tournament heading to Newcastle this weekend, with a huge cash prize up for grabs.

Fortnite featuring EStars will take over St James’ Park on Saturday, with head-to-head games, competitions and recreations from the popular game – which is played by millions every month.

And the top players at the event will be in with a chance to compete at the national final at London’s Stamford Bridge on 31 March, where an impressive £25,000 grand prize is at stake.

Gamers hoping to qualify can book to play in a one-hour slot in the gaming area – which they enter through a real life version of the game’s iconic Battle Bus – and beat other players to be crowned the winner of the match.

The top scorer of each morning, afternoon and evening session will win £25 and the three players with the highest overall scores will take home £250, £100 and £50.

But those who do not win a cash prize at the Newcastle event may still have the opportunity to play for the £25,000 grand prize, with the top nine scorers of the day qualifying for a place at the final.

And the fun continues after players have competed in their slots, with a range of other activities to take part in, including Fortnite dance competitions and meet and greets with their favourite characters.

Maeve Finnigan, of EStars, is certain it will be a fantastic event for Fortnite fans.

“There have been some impressive scores at other venues around the country so we’re excited to see what Newcastle players bring to the table,” said Maeve.

“It’s a great event for fans of the game to showcase their Fortnite skills, with the nine best gamers heading to London to compete against the top players in the country.

“The tournament really is anyone’s game so we hope players of all skill levels will be tempted to come and try their luck this weekend.”

Tickets cost £25 and include at least two games played during an hour-long slot, which must be booked in advance.

The event is open to players aged 12 and over, but those under-16 must attend with an accompanying adult, who can attend free of charge.
