Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Late night festive fun at the Grainger Christmas Night Market!

Traders from Newcastle’s oldest surviving retail destination, the Grainger Market, are encouraging people to come and love their local market this festive season with the return of the popular Grainger Christmas Night Market on Friday 1 December 2017.

Last year’s event which featured bands, entertainment and a light show attracted over 6,000 visitors and this year’s promises to be even bigger, better and more sparkly than before with the market traders offering events, experiences and special offers all under cover in the historic and atmospheric city centre market.

The event which is suitable for the whole family, runs from 5pm – 10pm. Entry tickets are free, but VIP experience tickets are still up for grabs.
Shoppers can browse the illuminated aisles of the market for a wide variety of Christmas inspired goods. There will also be special classes and activities, music, dancing, a bar, street food, free tasters, art and discounts on offer all evening.

Cllr Kim McGuinness, Cabinet Member for Culture and Communities at Newcastle City Council, said:

“I’m absolutely delighted that the Grainger Night Market event will return this year on 1 December. The Grainger Market is the city’s most iconic market and is a real Geordie institution which we are proud of.

“During the Christmas shopping season we want to encourage as many local people to come here to shop small, shop local and support the market businesses. When you visit the Grainger Market, you’re supporting the small businesses who are passionate about offering something bespoke and different, with a huge range of locally made products on offer.

“So why not pop along for a fun and festive night, buy a present you can’t get anywhere else, eat delicious street food, meet Santa Claus and enjoy great live music and art. There really is something for everyone and we guarantee new visitors to the market will be pleasantly surprised by what they will see, taste, smell and experience.”

The event is supported by Newcastle City Council and South Tyneside Radio. Visitors can also donate to the West End Food Bank on the evening. The Grainger Christmas Night Market is free to attend.

It is also possible to book special VIP tickets giving an extra insight in to the Victorian building. VIP tickets include balcony views of the event, a visit down to one of the air raid shelters which survive underneath the market floors, a goodie bag and a free festive drink.

Limited tickets are available for behind the scenes tickets, with some festive treats through: www.eventbrite.co.uk. Simply search for ‘Grainger Christmas Night Market’.

All funds raised on the evening go towards putting on future events in the market.
