Magic fans and magicians from around the world are disappearing from South Tyneside following one of the most spellbinding events of the year.
The South Tyneside International Magic Festival, organised by South Tyneside Council, features a variety of performances, lectures and workshops led by professional magicians from across Europe and the USA,
The 12th annual event, held at the Customs House, South Shields, attracted more than 1000 visitors, with highlights including a Family Magic Extravaganza and two International Gala Shows.
The family show, sponsored by Magicbox, featured top performers from across the North East, while the Gala Shows welcomed 10 international artists, including German mentalist Satori and American comedian and philanthropist Michael Finney.
Throughout the week-long event school children across South Tyneside also enjoyed shows by North East magician, Magic Andrew, who performed a variety of tricks, including educational illusions based on stranger danger and road safety.
In addition, more than 100 professional magicians attended the festival’s specialist, three day convention, where they were able to share best practice and enhance their repertoires with tips from a host of renowned performers, including mind-reader Luke Jermay and card expert John Carey.
Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “The 12th annual South Tyneside International Magic Festival was a great success, with attendees of all ages enjoying the chance to see magic of this calibre performed live.
“The delegates at our three day convention also made the most of their opportunity to learn directly from a variety of acclaimed artists and seemed to find plenty of things to incorporate into their own acts.”
