Muckle LLP has scooped the Property Law Firm of the Year award at the inaugural Insider North East Property Awards 2017.

Held at the Marriott Hotel in Gosforth, Newcastle, the North East’s leading independent law firm beat strong competition from other top regional firms to win the award.

The judges were particularly impressed with Muckle’s list of current clients and key regional projects, notably three of the largest redevelopment schemes in Newcastle – Science Central, the Stephenson Quarter and Newgate Centre. Science Central also triumphed in the Deal of the Year award.

Outside Newcastle, Muckle is involved in many other major projects across the North East. Significant developments include Sunderland’s inspirational Music, Arts and Culture quarter and Amethyst Homes’ extensive Regents Park regeneration near Durham.

The judges also commented on how Muckle has developed separate social housing and real estate litigation teams, significantly boosting the range of specialist expertise the firm now offers.

The property awards have been launched to recognise the excellence of the sector in the region and to reward the very best property companies, developments and deals over the last 12 months.

Jonathan Combe, partner and head of real estate at Muckle, was present at the ceremony and collected the award. Jonathan said: “It was an outstanding evening and we are all absolutely delighted with this prestigious award.

“This certainly acknowledges our consistently high performance in a very competitive sector, despite the recent challenges the property market has faced since Brexit and potential economic uncertainty.

“It’s our goal to be regarded as the law firm of choice in the North East for businesses, and we would like to place on record a very big thankyou to all our clients and also our business partners for their continued support.”

Philip Cunliffe, Insider’s regional business editor, said: “I’d like to congratulate all the winners at the inaugural North East Property Awards. The property sector is extremely important to Insider and, having successfully run property awards in most other regions of the UK, we are delighted to have launched them in the North East.

“There is clearly an appetite for the awards, providing as they do a wonderful, timely opportunity not only to showcase many of the excellent companies, developments and deals in the North East but also to gather the sector together for an enjoyable night of celebration.”
