Members of the public are being invited to apply to become members of a key committee.
Durham County Council is seeking to appoint two new co-opted members to serve on its Audit Committee for three years from May 1.
The committee’s job is to approve the authority’s final accounts and advise both full council and the cabinet on audit and governance issues.
It aims to provide independent and effective assurance about the adequacy of financial management and reporting, and the management of other processes.
Co-opted non-voting members of the committee will serve alongside nine elected county councillors to assist the authority in maintaining high standards of corporate governance, and bring additional knowledge, expertise as well as independence.
Co-opted members should be completely independent of the council, well qualified to discharge the functions, and be politically independent.
Successful candidates would be required to attend six or seven meetings a year, and training sessions, and would be able to claim reasonable travelling expenses.
Application forms and further details, including restrictions on appointment, can be obtained by emailing democraticservices@durham.gov.uk
The closing date for anyone interested is March 31.
