Newcastle Falcons are holding a benefit evening on Wednesday December 14 for Taione Vea, the 27-year-old prop who this week was forced to retire from rugby after suffering a serious spinal injury.

Billed as a ‘proper rugby club event’ with first team, academy players and coaching staff on board, all funds raised from ticket sales, bar sales and auction/raffle will go directly to the Taione Vea Testimonial Fund.

Vea, 27, is a former Tongan international who made 22 appearances for the Falcons since joining in the summer of 2015, the former Wasps, London Welsh and North Harbour man quickly becoming a firm favourite for his committed playing style and affable demeanour.

Priced at only £20, the benefit evening starts at 7.30pm at Kingston Park Stadium and includes a hot meal, entertainment, player interaction, speeches and auctions.

Advanced booking is essential, with numbers limited for what is sure to be a popular event. To book your place call 0871 226 6060 or visit https://www.eticketing.co.uk/newcastle-falcons/details/event.aspx?itemref=3025 .

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards said: “The messages of support we have had since Tai’s announcement have really hammered home what an enormously popular and valued guy he is, both on and off the field.

“It is great that we are able to host this event to help set him up for the future, and also to acknowledge the huge contribution Tai has made to the place since he joined us.

“It will be a fun evening in the best rugby club tradition, our players and coaches are fully involved and I am sure everyone attending will have a cracking night in honour of one of the great characters of Falcons rugby.”
