Two independent North East organisations have crafted a new relationship to support the local arts and culture community.

The Ouseburn-based gallery The Biscuit Factory and the People’s Theatre have forged a new working partnership that will see both organisations support one another and members of the local arts scene in Newcastle.

The gallery’s charitable arm – The Biscuit Factory Foundation – will be sponsoring arts programming at The People’s Theatre, which provides a platform for amateur and emerging artists.

In the coming months, the organisations will also be looking to develop a mentoring programme for exhibitors, with curators from The Biscuit Factory offering artists advice on how they can develop their portfolios and progress in their careers.

Rachel Brown, General Manager at The Biscuit Factory says: “The gallery is looking to support other independent arts organisations in the locality and ultimately contribute to the development of the cultural landscape of the city for artists and art appreciators alike. Our collective aim is to bring more awareness to The People’s Theatre’s programming and to let our audiences know about their activities.”

Anne Cater, Gallery Manager at The People’s Theatre adds: “We have been showcasing emerging artists work at the theatre for many years. Our new foyer and gallery space now provides a spectacular backdrop for exhibitions and, with The Biscuit Factory’s support, our exhibiting artists have access to a wider audience and the commercial expertise of The Biscuit Factory.”

The first exhibition under the new relationship will be New Perspectives at the People’s Theatre from Tuesday 13th June – Saturday 29th July 2017*.

Knightsbridge Art Club Gosforth is returning to the People’s Theatre with their latest exhibition. Since their last display they have moved to new premises and membership has changed considerably. Changes have also taken place at The People’s Theatre which has undergone a massive building programme incorporating a Studio Theatre and exciting new gallery space and foyer. And now, The Biscuit Factory Foundation is working with the People’s Theatre to help amateur and emerging artists so we all have new perspectives and new horizons to explore.
