The HMS TeamA North East woman has launched an innovative care provision service after experiencing first-hand the necessity for support personalised to the needs of each recipient.

HMS will deliver tailored care for adults with learning disabilities, mental health issues, complex needs and challenging behaviour, with focus on individual choice, community inclusion, independence and quality of life.

Sam Hackett, from Newcastle, left a successful fund management company to set up HMS after being approached by experienced healthcare professionals, Kelly Legg and Nikki Smith, for backing for the project.

Sam said: “The prospect for care is changing positively in the UK, with a national and regional push to get people back into their own communities and building care support packages around those who need them. HMS wants to provide the best tailored support to individuals, working closely with the individual and the network around them to make the choices and process as easy as possible for them.

“What really stands us apart from the rest of the providers in the region is our mission to support those who actually give the care, as well as those that receive it. That is why we intend to donate a percentage of our profits to community events for support workers and families.”

After the appointment of Kelly and Nikki as Registered Manager and Social Care Manager respectively, who have almost 20 years’ worth of industry experience between them, HMS has recently received its Care Quality Commission certification and has begun to provide care.

Kelly, from Redcar, is registered with the Health Care Professions Council as an occupational therapist and has nine years’ worth of experience in the health and social care sector.

Kelly said: “I am really excited to begin this role with a provider whose ethos of personal support really matches my own.

“I have witnessed how caring for an individual affects families and the pressure it puts on them, and I think that a project like this one couldn’t have come at a better time, and I am really glad to be a part of building it.”

Nikki, from Thornaby, has over 10 years’ worth of experience in the health and social care sector and also has a degree in social work.

Nikki said: “After having worked in the care sector for over a decade, I was ready to be a part of a team who aims to put smiles on people’s faces by doing something more personal and emotional, because that’s what it’s all about.

“What this industry is often missing is genuine staff who really care, and that’s a gap in the market that I feel that HMS will fill well, and I can’t wait to get started.”

On the appointments, Sam said: “Everything is starting to fall into line with our experienced managers and now our CQC in place, we are in a good position to become one of the leading adult social care providers in the North East in no time.

“As a provider that intends to put quality of care as its main objective, the future couldn’t be brighter, and we are looking to grow the team to 15 by the end of 2016 and 50 by the end of 2017.”
