Orange Pip Market’s Debut Line-Up Revealed

THE sizzling street food and entertainment confirmed for the first Orange Pip Market can now be revealed.

The artisan “21st Century culinary bazaar” will be offering foodie treats from across the culinary spectrum when it launches on Saturday, May 28.

Baker Street will be hosting the annual event, which will run from noon to 7pm on the last Saturday of every month.

Market organisers have cherry-picked the best in farmer’s markets, continental markets and street food festivals, alongside live music from up-and-coming artists, pop-up arts workshops and street theatre.

Among the taste-bud tickling offer will be:

1. Ugly Duckling – Juices prepared from fresh fruit and vegetables that are destined for landfill because it is wonky or not pretty enough for the shop shelves.
2. The Clucking Pig – Hand crafted scotch eggs made using the finest free range ingredients sourced from a selection of local suppliers.
3. Lottie’s Voluptuous Delights – Cakes and confectionary.
4. Songbird Bakery – Cupcakes from new additions to Bedford Street.
5. The Curing House – Charcuterie and European fare.
6. The Nuthatch – Artisan cocktails, Pimms & Prosecco bar.
7. Bedford Street Coffee House – Speciality coffee house serving seasonal espresso, single origin filter coffees and speciality teas.
8. Wheatberry – Vegetarian and vegan street food, specialising in salads, spreads and sprouts all wrapped up in a delicious homemade flatbread.
9. The Asian Project – Fresh, fragrant street food, using influences from Asia.
10. Manor Garden – Beautiful seasonal flowers, sown and grown locally.
11. Grown In Middlesbrough – fresh, seasonal vegetables from local farms and small-scale growers in the town.
12. Earl’s Fine Foods – Cheesemonger also stocking oils, olives, pickles, preserves and handmade baked goods.
13. Earth & Fire – Wood fired pizza.
14. Sundaes of Yarm – Ice-cream made from local milk, served from a bicycle.
15. Piejackers – Gourmet pies and sides.
16. Elizabeth’s Kitchen – Gluten Free bakery.
17. Asharum – Spices, herbs and rubs.

Meanwhile the artists confirmed to be taking part in the day are:

1. Levantes Dance Theatre – Eleni and Bethanie have a kitsch admiration for routine and Canapé Art is pocket-sized, playful performances exploring everyday life with a surprising and absurdist twist.
2. Jean & Morag, Tea Ladies – Jean and Morag are two feisty tricycling tea ladies of a certain age. Legends of the local scene, these girls are always up for tea, biscuits and mischief and liven up any event they grace with their presence.
3. The Main Offenders – Local legends that only perform once in a blue moon, The Main Offenders are fully-fledged artisans of rock. We wanted niche and niche is what we got with a side order of swag. The Main Offenders pay homage to cult heroes of the Swedish rock scene – The Hives. Imitation really is the sincerest form of flattery.
4. Green Fuzz – Green Fuzz are an electrifying garage/psyche supergroup (of two) featuring Russell Andrew Gray Esq. (Girl Sweat) on drums and Festival of Light’s Timothy Oxnard (The Approved and Magick Godmothers) on vox & guitar.
5. Archipelago – Improvisation meets compositions inspired by jazz, punk rock and the avant-garde. This reeds-bass-drums trio from Newcastle upon Tyne kick up a sandstorm of sonic possibilities, making music at the crux of what is learned and what is felt.
6. Amelia Coburn – With a voice set to stun and a gift for interpretation that is second to none, Amelia Coburn spends every spare moment rifling through records and filtering the findings through her punky ukulele playing to wow audiences across the North East and increasingly beyond.
7. Christina Hesford – Christina Hesford is a local girl and former CCAD student. A textile artist who specialises in hand-weaving, Christina will be bringing her mini-loom and tremendous skills to the market to demo the little-known art of weaving and enlisting help from visitors who would like to learn this magical and ancient craft.
8. The Culture Cart – The Culture Cart is a pop up art workshop and gallery travelling throughout the UK with a customised cart, hosted by an English gentleman on a vintage bicycle! The workshop on wheels will be showing folks how to create woodcut prints, bespoke postcards and greeting cards, as well as one off screen printed items.
9. Twitching Tales Puppets – Appearing in the legends of many cultures, the White Stag is a messenger, leader, guardian and link between worlds. The experience of meeting one of these magical beasts usually indicates the deliverance of a message, inspiring happiness and spiritual enlightenment. Twitching Tales’ White Stag is a beautiful realisation of this legendary creature!
10. Dr Twist Photographarium – Dr Twist’s Photographarium brings the photography of the early 1900s to Orange Pip Market. Using the original equipment and chemistry of the day, you can watch as your portrait develops in front of your eyes using their one-of-a-kind developing cart. Dr Twist will also be bringing their own costume department in case you need a touch more glamour on the day!
11. Twisted Sister Braids – Twisted Sister Braids is the brainchild of Newcastle based creative hairstylist, Sophie Warburton. From pancaking and cornrows to glittered partings, there is nothing Sophie doesn’t know about the art of braiding.

Orange Pip Market Development Officer Nicky Peacock said: “This is going to something totally different for Middlesbrough and I really hope people enjoy it. I’ve tried to add in something to suit all tastes but have kept a tight rein on quality control to make sure that it’s all killer and no filler.”
