Parmo Fundraising for Finley

Calling all pacey parmo eaters!

Charity fundraisers are looking for lovers of Teesside’s favourite dish to join them in a parmo-eating speed challenge this Friday towards a massive fundraising push for Middlesbrough four-year- old Finley Ingles.

£200,000 is needed to send Finley to the USA for life-changing brain surgery – and Teesside company Bespoke Financial is looking to give the fundraising a further boost to take it towards the £100,000 mark.

The Finley Ingles Parmo Challenge and Family Fun Day takes place at new Middlesbrough pub, The Players’ Lounge on Bridge Street, this Friday from midday, with adjoining business, the Players’ Kitchen, donating the chicken parmos!

Already 25 parmo-loving locals have entered the speed-eating challenge – but there’s still time for more to join the fun.

Tony Wedlake, who is working with Bespoke Financial principal Lee Flanagan, Isaac Greaves and Wayne Urwin to organise the event, said: “Ten members of the Bespoke team are among the entries – but if any Teessiders are up for the challenge then we’d love them to get in touch.

“It’s important that they know there’s chips included too – but no salad!

“Lee is confident that he’ll take some beating, but while I do love a parmo I’m not sure my speed-eating is up to scratch.”

Heats of five parmo-eaters kick-off around 12.30 on Friday, with a spa and overnight stay for two at Rockliffe Hall the prize for the fastest eater.

The general public are welcome to attend to watch the action and join in the fun, including a disco, face painting, balloon sculpting, magic show and visits from Boro mascot Roary and champion sprinter Richard Kilty.

A pay bar and food will also be available, while there’ll be a bucket collection and raffle in aid of the Finley Ingles Appeal.

Finley will also be in attendance with mum Kara.

To enter the Parmo Challenge, contact Tony on 07577 436575 or Isaac on 07872 844617. Entrants must raise a minimum of £30 in sponsorship.

Tony, who recently raised £3,500 for the appeal through a golf day he organised with Neal Bullock, is holding a further fundraiser, A Night for Finley, at the Longlands Club on November 25, featuring a band, disco and auction. Tickets, priced £5 each, are available from Tony.
