A TASK force to reduce crime and keep people safe in and around the River Tees has been set up.
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is working with volunteers from the Canal and River Trust and with other partner agencies to reduce anti-social behaviour, environmental crime and make sure that residents and visitors are complying with the river’s bylaws.
The task force will focus on all areas of the River Tees from the Tees Barrage to the mouth of the Leven.
Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Access, Communities and Community Safety, said: “The River Tees is one of the Borough’s best assets and we want to encourage people to use and make the most of it, especially during the warmer weather and lighter evenings.
“Thankfully anti-social behaviour and other crime on and along the River Tees is not widespread but we want to make sure that people comply with the river’s bylaws to keep it a safe and pleasant place to live, work and visit. Following a successful trial period last summer, we have worked with partners to set up this special task force because we want residents and visitors alike to be able to make the most of the River Tees – its natural beauty, stunning views and fantastic facilities.”
