Rob Paternostro has been voted the Ed Percival Molten BBL Coach of the Year for 2016-17 and retains the prestigious honour he won for his work during 2015-16.

The Leicester Riders’ play-caller won his first BBL Coach of the Year gong in 2008-09 and then again in 2012-13. Paternostro is now just one annual award away from levelling with Kevin Cadle and Fab Flournoy, who top the All-Time chart with five Coach of the Year awards each.

He swept the board in the polling of BBL clubs/coaches with all 11 clubs eligible to vote, putting his name forward in a resounding thumbs-up for his efforts and achievements. Riders have already scooped the BBL Trophy and successfully defended their BBL Championship title.

“While it’s pleasing, this really is all about the unselfishness of the team as far as I am concerned,” stated Paternostro

“Right from day one, that has been the key for us in what is always a very tough and competitive BBL season from top to bottom.

“And, we still have some work lying in front of us,” he added.

Paternostro and his side are still chasing what would be a glorious silverware treble and looking to make it back appearances at the BBL Play-Off Final, having been pipped to the silverware by Sheffield in last season’s exciting conclusion.

Riders travel to London Lions tonight in the first leg of the Play-Off Semi-Finals and then are at home on Sunday in the return game. Both games are available to view via livebasketball.tv
