Plaques to commemorate the life of two of Richmondshire’s past councillors have been unveiled.
Chairman John Robinson – who represented the Central ward in Richmond – and Catterick councillor Derek Sankey both died earlier this year.
Councillor Robinson, aged 63, died suddenly on January 20. The dedicated ambassador for
Richmond was elected to represent the town on Richmondshire District Council in 2007, and was currently serving as its Chairman. He was also involved in a host of local voluntary and charitable groups. He is survived by his wife, Kate.
Councillor Sankey, aged 67, was elected to the authority in May last year having been a parish councillor since 2012. The time served wood cutting machinist died at his home in
Catterick Village where he has lived for 45 years. He is survived by his wife, Audrey.
Current Chairman of the Council, Councillor Caroline Thornton-Berry,who unveiled the tribute in the garden of Mercury House in Richmond, said: “We have placed these commemorative plaques to show the Council’s appreciation for the work done, and care shown, for their local communities by John and Derek.”
