THIS Bank Holiday Monday, head down to Preston Park Museum for a fantastic day of live music and great tasting food.
The Folk and Farmers’ Market will return again this weekend, in partnership with the Northern Dales Farmers’ Market. Visitors can peruse 20 stalls, selling tasty local produce including Pie Jackers, Crumble and Slice, Urban Fudge and the Three Brothers Brewery.
Located in the museum’s Spence Courtyard, visitors are invited to relax on a hay bale and soak up the festival atmosphere. There will be live music performances throughout the day by Steve Dagleish, Marie Marx, Peg Powler, Andy Broderick, and Loose Like A Goose aka Bob Surgeoner and Bruce Rollo.
For little ones there will be an opportunity to take part in a drum workshop (£1), make a paper shaker and enjoy a traditional Punch and Judy puppet show. Plus, Evancliffe Leathercraft will be helping families make a leather key ring (£1) and Tees Wildlife Trust, a wooden pencil holder to take home.
Last year, the inaugural event was a great success attracting over 4,000 visitors.
Reuben Kench, Director of Culture, Events and Leisure at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: “Our first Folk and Farmers’ Market proved to be a big hit with our visitors and as a result we have decided to do it again for a second year. We hope the fine weather continues and look forward to welcoming families from across the Tees Valley, encouraging them to enjoy the festival atmosphere, whilst supporting local food producers and musicians.”
Market manager, Nigel Davison, added: “This was a fantastic event last year and we’re delighted to be back. Bringing a traditional farmers’ market with its hustle and bustle into the beautiful Victorian street helps bring it to life, recreating a little taste of the past for visitors.”
Entry to the Folk and Farmers’ Market is free with museum admission. Doors opens at 10am and last admission is at 3.30pm.
