Yarm Preparatory School raised more than £700 for Macmillan Cancer Support from a hugely popular charity bake sale.

There were a wide range of cakes on offer at three separate events during the day, including allergy-free options for those who may have been intolerant to nuts, gluten and dairy.

The bake sale raised a record amount of £741.19 compared to last year’s total of £477.  There were more than 20 volunteers who helped to sell a large number of cakes.

Joanna Garvey, a member of Yarm Preparatory School’s social committee, said: “This year’s Macmillan fundraising event was incredibly successful and we’re so grateful for the support we have received from not only the volunteers but also the people who kindly bought something from us.

“The weather was on our side and the volunteers thoroughly enjoyed the day. Pre-Prep completely sold out of cakes and we are looking forward to raising even more money next year.”

Bill Sawyer, Head of Yarm Preparatory School, said: The support we have received this year has been phenomenal and I would like to take the time to thank everyone who was involved to help us raise money for this worthy cause.  Cancer touches so many lives and to be able to make even a small contribution to the wonderful work Macmillan does is very rewarding.

“Fundraising is an important part of our school’s ethos and it’s great to see children from across the Preparatory School getting involved.”
