Redcar & Cleveland joins the Great British Spring Clean

OVER 50 litter picks will take place across Redcar & Cleveland as local heroes support the Great British Spring Clean.

The Great British Spring Clean is a national clean-up, focusing around the weekend of the 3-5 March, with the aim of clearing up the litter that blights our towns, villages, countryside and coastline.

The clean-up builds on the borough’s ‘Love it’ campaign which focuses on improving the environment and building pride in local communities.

Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Alec Brown, said:

“We are proud to support the Great British Spring Clean which provides us with the opportunity to highlight the work being delivered as part of the ‘Love it’ campaign.

Everyone has the opportunity to keep their communities clean and  tidy and with over 50 litter picks planned across the borough local community groups and businesses supported by the council are stepping up to make a positive difference in their communities.

Carolyn Granthier from Marske Litter Action added:

“One of the events taking place as part of the Great British Spring Clean will be a clean-up of the playing fields at Marske between 10.00 am to 12.00 noon on Saturday, 4 March.

We would welcome anyone who is willing to lend a helping hand and encourage residents and other community groups across the area to get involved in the Great British Spring Clean and take pride in their local area.”

TV wildlife presenter Steve Backshall is also lending his support to the campaign, which is backed by anti-litter charities including Keep Britain Tidy, Keep Wales Tidy, Keep Scotland Beautiful, Marine Conservation Society and Surfer Against Sewage.
