CaptureBUDDING and seasoned athletes will soon be able to register their place in next year’s Stockton Duathlon and the Stockton Sportive.

From Monday 1 November, registrations will be open to participate in both events.

During a year which is set to see Stockton become the focus of the cycling world, when the British Cycling National Road Race Championships arrive in June 2016, residents and visitors are being encouraged to get active and get involved in either or both events.

The Stockton Duathlon takes place on Sunday 24 April 2016 and comprises a run-cycle-run format with different distances on offer to suit all ages and abilities.

The Stockton Sportive (in association with National RR Championship) hits the roads on Saturday 25 June 2016, welcoming riders of all abilities and offering a variety of distances, from the Short Sport (36.7 miles) to Le Tour de Moor (105.8 miles).

Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “We have two great sporting events in Stockton on offer to residents and visitors which will complement the fact that we are proudly welcoming the British Cycling National Road Race Championships next summer.

“The Stockton Duathlon had close to a thousand participants last year and I am confident that the sporting people of the Borough will be out in force again to either compete or just have fun being active.

“The increasingly popular Sportive event treats entrants to stunning scenic views as the route travels across various Stockton Borough locations and into the North Yorkshire Moors. There really is something for everybody.”

The 2016 Stockton Duathlon (standard distance) event will also play host to the Triathlon England National Duathlon Championships.

All abilities are welcome to take part in the event and participants are required to be members of Triathlon England should they wish to be eligible for the National Championships.
