The Orangery, Rockliffe Hall’s flagship restaurant, has won the coveted title of “Best Hotel Restaurant” in the Secret Diner Awards.
The restaurant, one of three at Rockliffe is described by The Secret Diner as having found in Executive Chef, Richard Allen, a chef that befits the status of a flagship hotel. Describing the food as “superb” and “excellent”, the Secret Diner also praises the exceptional staff at the hotel, adding “although the menu was a resolutely fine dining affair, service was unstarched, which made for a very enjoyable evening.”
Rockliffe Hall in Hurworth, near Darlington, is the only hotel in the North to hold 5 AA red stars, offering sumptuous guestrooms and suites, three superb restaurants, an award-winning spa and 18-hole championship golf course. Rockliffe recently invested £1 million in a new Spa Garden to enhance the spa experience and has plans for further investment to enhance its services in 2016.
The Secret Diner spent all of last year sampling cafes, bistros and restaurants all over the North East before announcing the winners at the end of 2015. He echoes the growing belief of many that 2015 was a “game-changer” for the North East’s restaurant industry and that nationally there is a general air of excitement surrounding the region’s food scene.
Eamonn Elliott, Chief Executive at Rockliffe Hall, said: “At Rockliffe we pride ourselves on offering a fantastic choice of dining experiences with the fantastic Clubhouse, divine Brasserie and our wonderful flagship restaurant, The Orangery. Richard Allen, our Executive Chef only joined us a little under a year ago so to scoop this award for The Orangery so soon just proves what an outstanding chef he is, and what a brilliant team he has working with him.”
