Last year’s runaway success of Northumberland Live, saw over ten-thousand people crammed onto South Beach in Blyth, South East Northumberland – singing their hearts out to chart topping acts from yesteryear.
This year the organisers look to top that with the announcement that on Saturday 25th June – crowds to the free event will be welcoming on stage….SCOUTING FOR GIRLS.
Roy (Stride); Greg (Churchouse); and Pete (Ellard) make up the indie pop rocking trio; who have enjoyed eight top 40 hits with the stand out single – “This Ain’t a Love Song” being top of the UK charts for two weeks back in 2010.
The accolades came flooding in for the fun-loving popsters as they collected four BRIT Awards in 2009 for ‘British Breakthrough Act’, ‘British Live Act and British Single’ (“Heartbeat”), and again in 2011 – they won a BRIT for Best British Single with ‘This Ain’t A Love Song’.
Spanning nine years Scouting For Girls have notched up four top twenty UK albums including a number one self titled smash in 2007. Their popularity has seen them extensively touring the globe with their own inimitable brand of sing-a-long favourites.
This translates into a staggering 2 million record sales…with this dazzling back catalogue of delicious songs, old and new, being shoehorned into an energetic, non-stop performance at Northumberland Live in June. They will also be performing tracks from their current album “Still Thinking About You”.
Roy Stride, front man with Scouting For Girls, said: “We are so excited to be coming to Northumberland this summer. We’ll be playing all our hits plus a few surprises for everyone who comes down to the beach. Whatever the weather we’ll bring the sunshine!”
This year’s showcase is being supported by Blyth Town Council in association with Northumberland County Council; and we welcome back for a second year running as our media partner, BBC Newcastle 95.4FM Digital.
Councillor Kath Nisbet, Chair of Blyth Town Council Events Committee, said: “Northumberland Live has been a great success over the last two years, and I am delighted that Blyth Town Council has been able to step in to secure the future of the event.
“The people of Blyth hold Northumberland Live in high regard, and I’m sure that the event will continue to grow for many years to come – bringing top quality entertainment, visitors and investment into Blyth.”
What also makes Northumberland Live stand out from the rest is the way it supports local bands by giving them a chance to share the stage with chart topping acts like Scouting for Girls. This year there are ten slots up for grabs! To be considered please send your biography and a sample of music to Mel Jackson of Jigsaw Event Management at jigsaw@stuksound.com
This all comes during an exciting year for Blyth as the town will be welcoming visitors from all over the world to the North Sea Tall Ships Regatta Blyth 2016 in August (26-29).
So people should consider airing their tents and picnic blankets in preparation for what promises to be one of the biggest and best FREE events of the summer; and if last year’s weather and turn out are anything to go by – we are in for a cracker!
To accompany the music there will also be stalls containing local produce and crafts alongside a variety of other performing delights.
Northumberland Live starts at 11am and runs through until 9pm.
