Underwater technology and services company, SMD, is celebrating an influx of key hires, including several former employees, as it drives forward its strategic growth plans. Among the new hires are eight senior members of staff, five of whom have rejoined SMD after time spent elsewhere.
At the start of the year, SMD announced plans to hire 50 people by Christmas. The latest additions exceed this target by bringing the total to 70, and the business has a further recruitment drive planned for the coming months.
SMD’s Chairman, Mike Jones, said: “We have been delighted to welcome some familiar faces back to SMD this month; their desire to return to the business is a testament to our strong company culture and commitment to creating robust career pathways.
“We are proud to offer a variety of roles, each providing a flexibility that encourages our team to explore a personalised career path. We prioritise internal growth and progression by investing heavily in personal and professional development – something our people value highly.
“We recognise that the dedication and innovation of our team is central to the success we have enjoyed so far this year. It is therefore a pleasure to grow our workforce and incorporate diverse perspectives and skills into the business.”
After three years away from SMD, Stephen Wilson returns as general manager – business development. He said: “SMD’s investment in new technologies and focus on innovation has helped it achieve a half-century of world firsts. The business is growing rapidly and my new role provides an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of this evolution.”
E-Commodities specialist and Newcastle native, Helen Curry, joins the company for the first time. She said: “I was drawn to SMD due to its reputation as a leading name in the subsea sector. As the business strategically expands its client base and service offering, it feels like the perfect time to join.
“In my new role, I analyse market trends to improve the efficiency and service level of the company. SMD spans several sectors, providing cutting-edge products that transform underwater operations globally. I am incredibly proud to be a part of this dynamic, market-leading organisation.”
