Northumbrian Water is set to begin a £1.2m investment in South Wellfield, North Tyneside to upgrade aging water mains and strengthen the resilience of the local water network.
The project will see 8.4km of water mains renewed, significantly improving reliability and reducing the likelihood of future leaks or bursts for customers. This will ensure homes and businesses continue to receive a high quality, dependable water supply.
This work is being delivered by the water company’s partner, United Infrastructure Limited. Work will commence on Monday 16 February and is anticipated to take approximately 30 weeks to complete.
To keep the community moving safely around the work, traffic management measures will be in place throughout the scheme, including a ‘give and take’ system on the carriageway and a temporary footway closure with clearly signposted alternative routes.
Brian Hardy, Project Manager at Northumbrian Water said:
“Renewing these mains is a vital step in improving the reliability of supply for customers in South Wellfield. By replacing older sections of the network now, we’re helping prevent future bursts and ensuring the system is more resilient for years to come. Our teams will be working hard to deliver the improvements as efficiently and safely as possible, and we want to thank residents for their understanding while this essential work takes place.”
