RADwood celebrates the excess of ’80s and ’90s car and lifestyle culture, blending period-correct dress with automotive awesomeness to celebrate cars, trucks, and bikes from 1980-1999. Founded in America in 2017, by podcasters Art Cervantes and Warren Madsen, Hagerty took stewardship of RADwood in March 2022 to build on the company’s purpose to save driving and car culture, and now Hagerty is bringing RADwood to the UK.
Hagerty’s RADwood UK event takes place at Bicester Heritage on Saturday 20th August, providing owners of 80s and 90s cars a unique opportunity to show their vehicles and meet like-minded enthusiasts at a UK car event unlike any other.
RADwood highlights what was acceptable in the 80s (and 90s) and celebrates a time when automotive culture was all about excess. Wide-arched bodykits, bolt on accessories, tuners like Reiger and Koenig, wired mobile phones and layers of aftermarket audio are all welcome, the less discreet the better. If you miss Max Power, Miami Vice, big hair, Fast Lane magazine and a time when TV and film stars were often the cars over the actors, RADwood is the show for you.
To celebrate automotive screen heroes, Hagerty has amassed some of the finest TV and film cars from the RADwood era to be displayed at Bicester Heritage. Mr T hated planes but loved his GMC Vantura van with its instantly recognisable red stripe, turbine wheels and raked stance. RAD showgoers can take a closer look at this legend of television along with a Back to the Future DeLorean, the Devon Industries Pontiac Firebird KITT and the universally loved Ghostbusters mobile Ecto-1.
In addition, Hagerty has curated a ‘Class of 22’ display which takes some of the automotive greats from the RADwood era and adds them to the Hagerty Price Guide for continuous valuation analysis. Cars on display include the legendary Volvo 850R estate, the turbocharged Ford Escort RS hot hatch and the ferocious Bugatti EB110.
Period culture also plays a big part of the RADwood experience, and Absolute Radio 90s DJ Andy Bush will entertain guests with music of the generation, providing a musical backdrop to cultural displays from breakdancing to BMX displays. The Hagerty UK team has compiled the ultimate list of driving songs from the 80s and 90s to help get RADwood fans in the mood ahead of the event.
With tickets priced at just £20 per car, it is a wonderful day out for families and groups of friends.
Mark Roper, Managing Director of Hagerty International, said, “Hagerty is at the heart of global car culture, as our recent Festival of the Unexceptional event highlighted with hundreds of display cars and thousands of guests. RADwood offers the same relaxed, fun atmosphere for fans of 80s and 90s automotive trends and promises to be one of the greatest modern classic car shows in the UK. RADwood is hugely celebrated in the US, and now UK car fans get to enjoy the experience too, thanks to Hagerty.”
