Students honoured at annual awards presentation

SCHOOL leavers were applauded for their achievements at a presentation to recognise creativity, personality and independence.

Twenty two sixth form students at Beaumont Hill Academy, part of The Education Village Academy Trust, Darlington, were given an award winning send off as they were honoured at the school’s annual Record of Achievement Awards.

The specialist academy, which supports children with a range of abilities from profound and multiple learning difficulties to severe and complex needs, saw parents, grandparents, carers, staff and former pupils watch as students received their awards from pastoral lead Carl Gaze.

Recognition was given to academic, artistic and sporting achievements, alongside honours for outstanding progress, independent mobility, citizenship and communication.

Assistant head teacher Karen Revill said: “It is wonderful to see our young people ready to embrace the next stage of their education or move on to a career.

“They have been an amazing eclectic group of students, all unique and wonderful in their own way and all achieving their potential.

“We are extremely proud to have helped prepare them for the future. They have brought us such joy and we wish them well as they take their next steps.”

Awards were also presented for attendance with three students achieving a perfect 100 per cent.

Year 11 Student of the Year Kieran Wennington, 16, of Darlington, who will be studying IT at Darlington College, said: “I have really enjoyed my time here at Beaumont Hill Academy.

“I have had a lot of help from the teachers, I have passed a lot of exams and I have made lots of friends.”

Liam Austin, 16, of Shildon, who was awarded the Outstanding Progress Award, added: “I came to Beaumont Hill Academy last year and it really has changed my life.

“It’s an amazing school with amazing teachers, I’ve made some really good friends and I’m going to miss it a lot.”
