Gateshead College is set to welcome world-renowned producer and artist Trevor Horn as he visits their Baltic Campus to share his experiences and advice with Performing Arts and Media students.
The visit follows a hugely successful day at the college organised by the Sunday for Sammy Trust, during which students were left starstruck when The 1975 frontman Matty Healy made a surprise appearance and delivered a major announcement.
Matty was joined by his father Tim Healy and Sunday for Sammy producer Ray Laidlaw to reveal that he will be performing next February at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle. Matty also led a songwriting workshop, giving students tips on crafting a hit song.
A legendary North East institution, Sunday for Sammy celebrates local talent and honours the late actor, Sammy Johnson. The biennial show is famed for its surprise star appearances from TV, theatre, comedy and music, all while raising vital funds to support emerging performers across the region.
David Alexander, Principal of Gateshead College, said:
“It was brilliant to have Matty Healy from The 1975 in college, especially now that he’s become a patron of Sunday for Sammy. That really highlights his commitment to supporting young people, which clearly shone through during his time with our students. Now, our students will have another exciting opportunity to learn from a music industry icon, as Trevor Horn visits us. We are delighted with our relationship with Sunday for Sammy as it gives our students experiences that just don’t come along every day. “
Trevor Horn—whose groundbreaking production work has shaped artists from The Buggles and Frankie Goes to Hollywood to Seal and Yes—will share guidance on forging a career in the industry.
Trevor Horn and his band, including Lol Creme, will also be performing live at Newcastle’s O2 City Hall on 18th December. Horn has previously supported Sunday for Sammy by performing in the last two arena shows, delighting audiences with classics such as Video Killed the Radio Star and Owner of a Lonely Heart.
“It’s always fantastic to see young talent in the North East. The region is bursting with creativity and energy, and I’m thrilled to be able to share some of my experiences and hopefully inspire the next generation of performers,” said Trevor.
These back-to-back high-profile visits reflect Gateshead College’s growing reputation as a hub for creative talent and underline the commitment by Sunday for Sammy to nurture and support the next generation of North East performers.
