Following a surge in popularity, specialist Newcastle charity shop, Re-styled by St Oswald’s Hospice, which specialises in transforming donated stock into unique upcycled furniture and homewares, is expanding their current workshop programme with a selection of new dates and additional courses.

The popular charity shop first launched a series of workshops in 2017 with the courses proving popular. The interactive workshops give art lovers the chance to craft like a pro whilst offering a unique way to raise money for a North East charity.

The workshops, which start from £10 per person, teach new skills to upcycling enthusiasts with workshops available for all ages, abilities and budgets. Attendees will have the chance to perfect existing techniques such as painting and upholstery, whilst learning new crafts including; embellishment, decoupage and rag wreath making.

Each workshop will be held at St Oswald’s Re-styled store, based in Eldon Garden Shopping Centre in Newcastle. The shop’s manager, Sophie Adamson – who will be leading the sessions, is no stranger to offering live demonstrations having twice appeared on the international TV shopping channel, Hochanda dispensing creative hints and tips to viewers from across the globe.

The Re-styled team has combined their artistic talents to develop the varied programme of basic, intermediate and advanced classes for aspiring #northeastupcyclers.

Sophie said: “We’ve received a fantastic response to the workshops we’ve held so far, so much so, that we’re delighted to be extending our workshops throughout 2018 and based on feedback we’ve received, have even created some new bespoke workshops. The aim of our sessions is to show just how easy and fun it is to turn something a bit worn out into something to be proud of, just like we do with our ‘pre-loved to re-loved’ pieces we sell at Re-styled.”

Sophie added: “We hope that people will enjoy the relaxed and creative atmosphere, and whether you’re a complete novice or already have some knowledge, there’s something for all abilities to get involved in. The groups are quite small, so all of our workshops allow for one-on-one time, meaning people can really make the most of the experience and make some new friends along the way.”

With their shabby-chic upcycled furniture growing in popularity, the Re-styled team is also on the lookout for other upcycling gurus to host guest workshops.

Sophie added: “The workshops have helped us build a community of #northeastupcyclers and those who’ve attended our workshops have been amazed by witnessing how upcycling can transform a pre-loved item into a re-loved item. The skills developed on our workshops give people the life-long skills to realise the potential of their previously unwanted items. We’d love for local crafters and artists who have an interest in this area to get in touch with us so we can work together to raise crucial funds for St Oswald’s. As St Oswald’s needs to raise over £7.5 million each year in order to continue to provide high quality care to patients and their families, Re-styled workshops offer people the chance to learn a new skill, have fun and get creative whilst giving back to an incredible cause.”
