The event aims to help former SSI staff, supply chain workers and their families find new employment and retraining opportunities. Anyone from the area affected by redundancy and looking for work is welcome to attend.
Chair of the SSI Task Force and Chief Executive of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council Amanda Skelton said: “Over 250 people have already found work as a direct result of the last three SSI Task Force Jobs Fairs. There has been good progress, but we know there are still hundreds of highly skilled former SSI and supply chain workers yet to find new jobs. The Jobs Fair is a great chance for people to meet with potential employers and see first-hand the vacancies on offer. We can also support people to get new skills and qualifications by funding training that could help them back to work in new roles.”
Employers can also benefit from wage subsidy funding through the SSI Task Force Jobs and Skills Fund. The scheme helps businesses to employ former SSI employees, supply chain workers affected by the closure of SSI and spouses or partners of workers, who are living in the same household. The fund will subsidise the cost of employment for positions made available for a minimum of two years.
